Softball's season comes to an end with loss to VCSU


MINOT, N.D. – Valley City State hit three home runs and scored eight runs in the fourth inning to eliminate Mayville State 8-0 in five innings during loser out play at the Dakota Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Friday at South Hill Complex.

The Vikings (21-18) hit all three in the eighth that broke open a tight game. Cyndi Figol, Jennifer Shadlock and Paige Smith all hit bombs in the fourth. Figol and Shadlock each knocked in three runs, while Smith finished with two hits. Brittany Lehner went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Vikings.

VCSU's Krystal Hathaway went the distance, giving up just three hits, while striking out five to earn the win.

Mayville State got hits from Jessica Flores, Angelique Macias and Lyndsi Maglish in the loss.

The Comets finish the season 11-29 overall and 7-13 in Dakota Athletic Conference play.
