Comets' baseball takes two wins in Canada

The Mayville State Comets' baseball team traveled to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to take on the University of Winnipeg Wesmen clinching two more wins with final scores of 17-3 and 16-3.

In game one, the Comets came out early scoring 1 run to take the lead. The Comets scored every inning except the last two, and ended the game early because of a run-rule. Mayville State out-hit the University of Winnipeg with 17 hits, which all ended in runs crossing the plate. The University of Winnipeg only had 6 hits with 3 runs crossing the plate.

Drake Yoshioka, Dusty Dove, and Jalen Hashberger all went yard (homerun) for the Comets. Drake Yoshioka was 4-4 on the day with 3 RBIs, Jalen Hashberger was 2-5 with 4 RBIs, Stephen Ferntheil was 2-3 with 2 RBIs, Austin Monson was 3-4 with 2 RBIs, and Dusty Dove was 2-2 with 4 RBIs.

In game two, the Comets racked up 21 hits for the game out-hitting the Wesmen with only 5 hits. Game two ended early again in a run-rule after playing 7 innings. The Comets won game two by a score of 16-3. The 4th inning was a big inning for the Comets rallying 9 runs to put them up over the Wesmen at that point 16-1. The Wesmen were able to answer back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Comets already having 16 runs on the board.

It was an all-around hitting spree for the Comets in both games racking up a total of 38 hits. The Comets took home another two wins to make their overall record 8-2 with an eight game winning streak.

Head Coach Scott Berry now has a total of 989 wins in his 35 year coaching career. All of his wins have come as the head coach of the Mayville State University Comets' baseball team.

With the two games on Sunday, the Comets have concluded their fall schedule. The Comets return to game-play action in Tucson, AZ on March 6, 2016. Game times, locations, and opponents will be determined at a later date.
