Sioux Center, Iowa - Comet softball had another crack at No. 17 Northwestern College on Saturday night. The Comets previously took down the Raiders this season in a 2-1 thriller to open up their 2026 season.
It was a back and forth pitching dual until the 3rd inning, where the Comets would score 4 runs on 3 hits. It all started when
Kate Vigen singled to left center to lead the inning off.
Ella Janzen plate Vigen with a double down the left field line.Â
Danica Hanson &
Lindsey Tulla would both draw walks, loading the bases for
Madison Terres. Terres would rip a double to left field, clearing the bases and giving the Comets an 4-0 lead midway through the game.
The Raiders would be able to plate a run in the bottom of the 5th but that's all they would get and the Comets would snag another win from the Top 25 team.Â
Lacey Mathiowetz got the call in the circle, pitching a full 7 innings, giving up 6 sprinkled hits and striking out 2. She earns her second win against Northwestern this season.
Northwestern utilized 4 different pitchers to try to shut down the Comets, but their 5 hits would be enough to snag the win.Â
The Comets will play a third day in Sioux Center on Sunday taking on College of Saint Mary in a doubleheader. The first game will be an exhibition game.Â
