Mayville, N.D. – Mayville State Comets softball is set to log some miles — and finally dig their cleats into dirt — as the team heads south for its annual spring break trip, traveling first to Wichita, Kansas before continuing on to Tucson, Arizona.

The Comets enter the trip at 3-6 overall after opening the season indoors at the ASB Dome in Sioux Center, Iowa. After two weekends on turf, Mayville State is eager for sunshine and natural playing surfaces.

"This trip is always a fun one for our team. We drive down to Wichita and play four games and then continue the journey to Tucson immediately after our last game," said head coach Jordan Olson. "Though it is a fun time for our team, this business trip is really important for getting into a rhythm to enter conference play. We have a lot of things we need to fine tune and I am hoping that our well balanced schedule can do just that."

Mayville State will return home Sunday, March 15th before quickly shifting focus to Frontier Conference play, opening up Friday, March 20th at Dakota State.

Friends Tournament:
The Comets begin play Friday, March 6, at the tournament hosted by Friends University.

Mayville State opens the weekend against Bethany College at 11:00 a.m., followed by a rematch with No. 12 Midland University at approximately 1:00 p.m. The Comets previously faced the Warriors earlier this season, falling in a tightly contested 2-1 decision.

Saturday's slate features a familiar foe in former North Star rival Waldorf University at 10:00 a.m., with York University to follow around 12pm.

Mayville State plans to live stream games from Wichita on the Comet Athletics YouTube page, with live stats also available throughout the weekend.

Tucson Invitational:
Following their four-game stint in Wichita, the Comets will immediately continue their journey west to Tucson for seven additional contests at the Tucson Invitational.

With 11 total games scheduled across the trip, the Comets will have ample chances to settle into defensive rhythm, refine pitching rotations, and find offensive momentum.

The Comets plan to live stream games from Arizona on the Comet Athletics YouTube page, though internet strength may be inconsistent. Live stats will be available for all contests.

After nearly two weeks on the road, Mayville State hopes the combination of competition, sunshine, and dirt will serve as the perfect springboard into Frontier Conference play.
