Hall of Fame
Dave Gurbada was an outstanding two-sport athlete at Mayville State. He played baseball and football for the Comets from 1976 to 1980. He was a four-year letter winner in each sport and excelled as a tight end in football and as a first baseman in baseball.
In football, he was a three-year starter and was named all-conference in 1979. Gurbada was particularly exceptional on the baseball field. He was a three-year starter, and for two years he was a team captain who earned all-conference and all-district honors.
Dave attracted professional baseball scouts with his size, speed, and power. He later starred for the Mayville Red Caps amateur baseball team, helping to lead the team to two state titles. He was twice named MVP of the state tournament and has been inducted into the N.D. Amateur Baseball Association Hall of Fame.
Dave graduated from Mayville State with a B.S.Ed. degree in 1981. He majored in physical education and elementary education.
