Box Score 4 Jamestown, N.D. - Mayville State University Comets Softball opened up their final season in the North Star against the Jamestown Jimmies Saturday and Sunday. The Jimmies, who are receiving votes in the Top 25 NAIA poll, were too much for the Comets and took the sweep 4-0.
"Opening up conference with the top team is never easy, especially in the dome on the road and after the preseason we have gone through," said head coach
Jordan Olson. "We gave them a competitive game each outing, however, we couldn't slow them down late in all four games."

Mackenzie Fuxa and Pino record one hit a piece
-

"In any other given circumstance, we aren't leaving a pitcher in to give up 9 runs in an inning [referencing game 2 & 3]. Unfortunately, we don't have the pitching depth, so we have to find ways to get out of innings even if it isn't their day," said Olson. "It is what it is, I have come up with a different plan going into Dickinson to give our pitchers some breathing room, but on the same note, when our pitchers are keeping us in games, we need to execute on the defensive end and string hits together to plate runs. Dickinson is just as good as Jamestown, if not better, so we will practice tougher this week and will need to play tougher softball with another weekend on the road."
The Comets will head to Dickinson State this weekend to take on the Blue Hawks for four more NSAA games. The game was originally scheduled to be the Comets home opener. The Blue Hawks are 3-1 in conference play and 18-9 overall.
The Comets exhibition against UND on Wednesday has been postponed. The game may be made up in the future.
